His colleagues trained in the procedure of CPR tried to get his heart beating again. In the frenzy that broke out, one of them thankfully used an AED to give Naresh a fighting chance at survival while the ICU ambulance arrived at the scene. The use of AED had bought many precious minutes of time that eventually saved his life\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>This is one such story where a life was saved by the usage of the AED and also since the first responder had the <strong>CPR and AED training<\/strong> done as a part of the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/vmedo.com\/first-aid-training\/index.html\">first aid training<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in his corporate office. The occurrence of cardiac arrests at the workplace is a not so happy trend that we see today\u2026 Let us dig deeper into the cardiac arrest and the AED.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/vmedo.com\/6-critical-skills-giving-first-aid-heart-attack\/\">Cardiac arrest<\/a><\/span>? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our heartbeat is a structure of 4 steps that are controlled and set by a natural rhythm of contraction and relaxation of the heart to pump blood to various parts of the body. This is taken care by electrical signals that make the heart synchronize all these internal procedures.<\/p>\n<p>If at any point there is a disturbance to this rhythm then the heart stops responding or responds in an irregular manner cutting off the pumping of the blood to the brain and other parts of the body. <strong>This is when it gets really dangerous and life-threatening, wherein the brain activity and respiration take a hit and the person loses consciousness and faces difficulty breathing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1803\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1803\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1803\" src=\"https:\/\/vmedo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/first-aid-banner.jpg\" alt=\"first-aid-banner\" width=\"900\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1803\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">first aid workshop registration<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is AED? And how does it save lives? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Think of your car as a battery, sometimes when it is dead &#8211; it needs a jumpstart. Similarly here in times of a cardiac arrest, the heart is in a state where it is active but not responding and it needs a shock that is delivered to the heart via the chest with electrical pads.<\/p>\n<p>The AED known in the long-form as<strong> Automated External Defibrillator<\/strong> is a device that automatically is able to diagnose the mismatch in the rhythm of the heart and give an electrical current via the pads. They are safe to use but it is recommended that the person using the AED has been previously trained in the usage of the device.
