{"id":152,"date":"2017-06-20T12:04:31","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T12:04:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vmedo.com\/?p=152"},"modified":"2021-12-21T09:08:36","modified_gmt":"2021-12-21T09:08:36","slug":"why-people-with-tattoos-cant-donate-blood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vmedo.com\/blog\/why-people-with-tattoos-cant-donate-blood\/","title":{"rendered":"Why People With Tattoos Can\u2019t Donate Blood?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Blood donation is a life-saving act which helps in improving one\u2019s health condition.&nbsp; Anyone who gives blood during an emergency is applauded for their selfless act that has the ability to enhance the lives of up to three recipients at a time.<\/p>\n<p>But there may be reasons wherein you will be denied an opportunity to donate blood to their own family during emergencies and the reason is \u201cshocking\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The reason for this is their \u201cnew tattoo\u201d that can affect the blood donation. &nbsp;The reason for this denial is a precaution against cross-contamination &amp; diseases like hepatitis, <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/HIV\">HIV<\/a><\/span> <\/strong>etc. For this reason, Blood banks recommend waiting for 6 to 12 months to allow the tattoo\u2019s design to properly heal.<\/p>\n<p>It is always important to check that the artist uses sealed needles before getting any work done mainly to avoid <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blood-borne_disease\">blood-borne diseases<\/a><\/span><\/strong> which may spread by needles. The blood donated by such people carries the&nbsp;risk of being infection &amp; other diseases like hepatitis B, hepatitis C and in rare cases HIV. Studies have revealed that there are 10-30 percent chances of transfusion of hepatitis B virus infection through infected needles.<\/p>\n<p>And in many of the blood banks, a tattoo is acceptable in blood donation if it was applied by a state-regulated or from a licensed tattoo shop using sterile needles and ink that is not reused.<\/p>\n<p>Many people are in the misconception that after getting a tattoo, you can\u2019t donate blood for a lifetime which is not true. After getting a tattoo, you cannot donate blood, but only for a limited time which varies from country to country like in India you cannot donate blood for 6 months and once u finish it, if you are a healthy person, you should consider donating blood on a regular basis &amp; can save lives.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"td_btn td_btn_md td_default_btn\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Also Read:<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><a style=\"color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/vmedo.com\/why-cristiano-ronaldo-refuses-tattoos-on-his-body\/\">Why Cristiano Ronaldo refused tattoos on his body?<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility to Donate Blood:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Any donor, who is healthy, fit and not suffering from any communicable diseases can donate blood on regular basis.<\/li>\n<li>The donor must be at least 18 years of age and have a minimum weight of 50Kg to donate blood.<\/li>\n<li>A donor can donate blood, once in 3 months. This means there should be a minimum gap of 120 days on your last donation of blood.<\/li>\n<li>Pulse rate must be between 50 to 100 mm without any irregularities.<\/li>\n<li>BP Systolic 100 to 180 mm Hg &amp; Diastolic 50 to 100 mm Hg.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Non-Eligibility:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Donors should not suffer from HIV+, hypertension. <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/vmedo.com\/6-critical-skills-giving-first-aid-heart-attack\/\">Cardiac arrest<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, epilepsy or diabetics.<\/li>\n<li>If the donor has been treated for <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Malaria\">malaria<\/a><\/span><\/strong> should avoid blood donation for the next three months.<\/li>\n<li>If donor consumed alcohol within the last 24 hours before blood donation.<\/li>\n<li>Medical treatments like acupuncture, ear piercing &amp; tattoo are also not eligible for a few limited periods.<\/li>\n<li>The donor should wait for 12 months after receiving a blood transfusion from another person.<\/li>\n<li>Traveling to abroad make blood donors not eligible to donate blood for a limited period of time.<\/li>\n<li>Dental procedures &amp; other oral surgery should wait for few limited days.<\/li>\n<li>As for smoking, you shouldn&#8217;t smoke within the last 4 hours before blood donation.<\/li>\n<li>Donors with major surgery should wait at least 6 months and 2 months for minor surgery for your next blood donation. And this may vary based on the type of surgery you have undergone.<\/li>\n<li>Four months after having an <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Endoscopy\">endoscopy<\/a><\/span><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Preparation to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/vmedo.com\/give-mankind-greatest-gift-donate-blood\/\">Donate Blood<\/a><\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Prepare yourself by having healthy enough fruit juice and water before you donate blood.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid donating blood in empty stomach. Eat three hours before your donation. Avoid fatty foods &amp; Eat food which is rich in iron.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Post Donation Care:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Have some rest for a few minutes after donation.
