What are the symptoms of coronavirus infection?

Initial symptoms

  • Dry Cough
  • Tiredness
  • Fever

Secondary symptoms

  • Runny nose
  • High levels of fever

Severe symptoms

  • Difficulty in breathing

Usually, the virus will take 1-14 days to incubate in your body. Nearly 80% of the people will only feel the initial symptoms and there will be no treatment needed. Only 1 in 5 people who get infected needs medical care.

People with preexisting conditions such as diabetes, asthma, heart disease, high blood pressure will be more susceptible to get infected or get severe from this virus.

How to know that you surely have coronavirus infection?

We are witnessing people committing suicide over this issue all over the country, as mentioned earlier it’s just slightly more effective than a normal seasonal flu and it’s not a crime to get infected.

If you are not sure or wondering deeply about whether you got coronavirus do the following things

  1. call 1075 and talk to them regarding your symptoms and answer all their questions honestly, they’ll be able to determine if it’s a seasonal cold or if you’re infected
  2. If they doubt that you’re indeed infected, the testing will be done by the government officials. You’ll know for sure that if you’re positive or not.

What to do if you’re coronavirus positive?

It depends on the severity of the condition,

As of now, the government is making sure that everyone with symptoms is isolated at its own cost but maybe in the future, we may not have resources to treat everyone in hospitals or isolation centres. At that time for people with mild conditions, Home quarantine will be advised. Only people with the severe condition will be put in hospitals.

How to take care and protect yourself if you’re taking care of a coronavirus patient at home?

In case, the patient with mild symptoms is indeed advised to be home quarantined the one healthcare worker will visit your home and assess if quarantine is possible or not.

If and where feasible, a communication link with a health care provider or public health personnel, or both, should be established for the duration of the home care period

The following recommendations were released by WHO this past week for home members with a patient with coronavirus infection

  • Place the patient in a room with open windows and door
  • Limit the patient’s movement to minimized space, ensure they don’t enter the kitchen.
  • Household members should stay in a different room or if that’s not possible, maintain 1meter distance.
  • Assign one person over 16 years old to care for the patient who doesn’t have any underlying diseases.
  • Visitors shouldn’t be allowed to see them at any cost.
  • Perform hand washing immediately after coming in contact with patients or their environment.
  • Hand hygiene should be performed before and after preparing food, after using the toilet, and whenever hands look dirty.
  • Use soap for visibly dirty hands and Alcohol rub for normal hands
  • When washing hands use disposable paper towels don’t use regular towels.
  • Coronavirus spreads through droplets when a person sneezes or coughs, to rectify that a medical mask should be used on the patient
  • A caregiver must also use a mask and make sure the spread doesn’t occur
  • Both of them aren’t supposed to touch the mask during use.it must be replaced every day
  • Do not reuse masks at any cost
  • Avoid direct contact with body fluids .particularly oral respiratory secretions, and stool.
  • Use a dedicated bed and utensils for the patient do not directly share food.
  • Daily clean the surfaces with disinfectants like alcohol-based sanitizers where the patient has touched.
  • Clean and disinfect kitchen, bathroom, and toilet surfaces regularly, no matter if the patient has touched those surfaces or not.
  • Clean the patient’s clothes with laundry soap and water with a temperature between 600 to 900
  • Gloves and protective clothing should be used when cleaning surfaces
  • Gloves, masks and other wasters generated should be placed in a waste bin with the lid closed before disposing of.
  • Do not share toothbrushes, cigarettes, eating utensils, dishes, drinks, towels, washcloths, and bed linen.
  • When your samples test negative twice within 48 hours you’ll be released from home quarantine.

What to do if you test negative for coronavirus?

Don’t take the situation lightly,

When you have a normal cold or cough your resistance to diseases and infections have become low and you should take more precautions. People with already underlying bacterial or some other kind of viral infections will become severe if they come in contact with coronavirus

What are the tablets and treatments that are available right now?

There is a variety of trials going on to treat coronavirus, from using HIV medicines to TB pills. There are no specific medicines or vaccines available for treating coronavirus just yet.

If you’re admitted to the hospital, you’ll be treated based on your pre-existing conditions and special attention will be taken to avoid other kinds of bacterial infections, so antibiotics will be used.

Respirators and ventilators are used if the infections in your lungs have become severe and you can’t breathe on your own.

Prospected vaccines for treating coronavirus and when will they be available?

Before going to the prospected vaccine we need to understand how these diseases work. Viral infections most of the time doesn’t come back once you are treated. Your body will develop the required immunity once it’s been cured.

Vaccination is not an imminent requirement in case of the outbreak but preventive measures are. Ebola’s first outbreak was in 1976 but the vaccine was developed and approved by the FDA in 2018. It takes years before developing a vaccine for any viral infections.

Every country in the world is in the race for developing the vaccine for coronavirus, but we are not sure about the credibility of all the news we have around us. According to Harvard studies we might have our first successful vaccine by September of 2020, but the full-scale vaccination drive may start in the May of 2021.

What to do after recovering from coronavirus?

It’ll take 2 weeks to get cured if you have a mild infection, it’ll take 3-6 weeks in severe cases.

People who survive coronavirus shouldn’t think they will not be infected again, although the researches limited in nature showing reinfection has little or no effect. What we suggest people who survive should do is create awareness amongst people and help them through tough times. People will listen to someone who has gone through that kind of experience once.

Only 1 in 5 people get hospitalized, and 2 people out of 100 will become severe but you can spread the disease very easily. That’s why all the efforts by the government are directed towards preventing the spread. If you don’t want to get hospitalized or worse manage another person with all the hard work prescribed above just stay at home and save yourself some trouble.
