Burial grounds in Bangalore

What Is Burial?

Burial is a method of final disposition wherein a dead person or non-human animal is placed into the ground, sometimes with objects. This is usually accomplished by excavating a pit or trench, placing the deceased and objects in it, and covering it over.

What happened recently?

In recent times there were high death rates due to the well-known pandemic being our uninvited guests for a long time.

So cremations were in spike due to too many deaths and too little ground to bury them.

Since Christianity doesn’t consider cremation as the mode of last rites and repeated pressure from the general public to find some land in the outskirts the government was under pressure sometimes for sure.

Previous year due to the pandemic the citizens of Bangalore were protesting against not burying the deaths that happened due to COVID-19 with the fear of which might spread the virus.

But according to the studies and despite officials trying to convince them that there is no chance of spread of COVID-19 once the body is buried, residents still weren’t satisfied, forced authorities to look for new land for the particular reason.

What did Government do to solve burials problem?

Taking the matter into consideration the Revenue Department has identified few places in the outskirts of the city in Dasanapura Hobli of Bangalore north, one in Uttarahalli hobli of Bangalore south, one in Jigani, Sarjapur Hobli, Jala Hobli totally for over 23 acres.

Actually, 35 acres of land were initially identified and were dropped due to the protests by the locals, BBMP council Mr. Prasad said “There is a misconception that burial of COVID-19 victims is potentially dangerous. There is scientific evidence that it is not. We will take up an awareness campaign in the media and also hold meetings with local villagers and convince them,” hoping that actually works.
